Additional questions - elementary only? Are there other degrees and credentials REACH offers? Who holds the apprenticeship grant, the community college or REACH?

The bachelor’s degree is in Liberal Studies to best position candidates seeking a position in elementary education (as it demonstrates subject matter competency for the multiple subjects credential). Our intern credential program also offers single-subject credentialing.

So to share my understanding of the steps: (1) Reach first Partners with feeder school districts (2) Reach simultaneously partners with the CC for employment/recruitment pipeline to those schools (3) Students earn AA Degree at our CC then automatically transfers to REACH via the local school district.

To attend REACH, do the students need to be employed in the feeder district?

How does your program of study compare to what is offered at our local CSUs? What are the advantages of your program/Disadvantages of your program?

Kimberly, I have a lot of specific comparisons, but we have good alignment with CA generally! A big difference is that while we provide the content, we are always pairing it with teaching methods, so theory and practice are married throughout the coursework.

So in Siskiyou, was REACH the one that received the apprenticeship grant?

Who are your faculty? If this program is asynchronous where are these classes taught?

College of the Siskiyou is quite remote and a very different story from some of us more urban colleges with several feeder CSUs where we have longstanding relationships.

For the undergraduate portion, our classes are synchronous online via Zoom

Clarifying question for single subject. You mentioned additional courses in last year. Does this mean you would be preparing students to add a supplemental credential in a single subject? Are there other undergraduate degrees that REACH offers other than Liberal Studies?

So they are credentialed teachers too?

How long (typically) does it take a candidate to complete the BA after transfer?

Many of them are, yes.

Great question, Kimberly. The program is over 80% synchronous and the cohort and Faculty/student relationships are prioritized. Classes are on Zoom at convenient times for students.

Our mission is focused on both rural and urban schools.

So if a student is not currently working for a feeder district and does not get a job with a feeder district, that student may not attend REACH.

So what happens to REACH when we no longer have a teacher shortage and districts aren’t abundantly hiring?

Kimberly, because much of the work comes from school employment, they must be employed at a school at least 15 hrs/week (Hector, correct me if I’m wrong on that number) to be in our program.
